POLITBEIRUT: Egypt’s efforts to combat terrorism have been praised by former Lebanese President Emile Lahoud.

“Egypt has broken the circle of extremists in the region,” Lahoud told MENA in an interview.

He urged decisive measures by regional countries to remove terror.

Lahoud termed as great what recently happened in Egypt, saying it will entail change in other countries.

He compared this with that in the era of the late president Gamal Abdel Nasser. He urged “Arab dignity” be the basis of the political behavior.

He asserted that Egypt is able to reset the balance in the region.

As for the developments in Lebanon, Lahoud said he believes that the formation of the new government came as the political forces did not want presidential elections to be held.

He called for a law on elections that represents all the Lebanese society.
