MENOUFIA, Egypt: A Muslim Brotherhood march in Shbein el-Koum city was dispersed Monday by Menoufia security forces after they clashed with residents, according to a security source.
The clashes started after the Brotherhood march repeated anti-army chants, which prompted residents to confront the march. In response, the Brotherhood protesters threw stones and shot at the residents.
The Menoufia security forces fired tear gas and used water cannons to disperse the march. Five Brotherhood members were arrested after the clashes, which resulted in the injury of one resident who was then transferred to a hospital in critical condition.
A report was filed about the incident while the public prosecution was notified to start investigations.
