ASYUT, Egypt: Shamareekh, a movement that means “flares,” claimed responsibility on Monday for the Sunday fire that broke out in a private garage of a police residence in Asyut governorate.

The movement said on its Facebook page that it used Molotov cocktails to set the fire to more than two cars that belonged to officers at 1:30 a.m.

Police investigations, however, said that only one car was damaged, and flares and bottles filled with benzene were found inside the garage.

Another movement called “We Will Terrify You” claimed responsibility for the deliberate torching of the cars of three police officers while parked outside their houses in Gharbia, Port Said and Ismailia governorates in February.

The Youtube account of “We Will Terrify You” posted videos of the burnings.
