CAIRO: Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani stressed the importance of the pivotal role played by Egypt as the chair of the Islamic Summit in promoting joint Islamic action and providing it with new dynamism.

In a statement Monday, the OIC said the talks held between Egyptian interim President Adly Mansour and Madani underscored the need for OIC member states to join efforts in order to support the Palestinian people and protect Al-Quds as well as the need to find a solution to the Syrian crisis such as to end the killing and bloodshed in Syria and meet the legitimate demands of the Syrian people.

Madani also met with Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy to discuss the Palestinian cause and the tragic conditions of the Syrian people.

The two parties also stressed the need to put an end to the killing and displacement of Muslims in the the Central African Republic consistent with the decisions of the OIC Executive Committee held recently in Jeddah.
