CAIRO: North Cairo court sentenced on Monday 61 Al-Azhar University students to 45 days in jail pending investigations over charges of committing acts of violence and assaulting security forces, sources told Youm7.

The defendants face various other charges as well, such as protesting without a permit, as the protest law issued in November banned protests that are not approved by the authorities, according to the sources.

Further charges include thuggery, disrupting national security, devastating public facilities and joining a terrorist group.
