CAIRO: Saudi authorities released Monday 59 fishermen that had been detained for illegally entering Saudi Arabian territorial waters, Ambassador Adel al-Alfy, Egypt’s consul general in Jiddah, said during a Monday phone call to Al-Hayat TV channel.

Alfy said the fishermen were escorted to one of their seized boats, adding that another detained fishing boat would remain in Saudi Arabia with its crew.

Alfy said Egypt‘s embassy in Saudi Arabia was working to facilitate the rest of the fishermen’s release.

On Feb.21, Saudi authorities seized two Egyptian fishing vessels and arrested their crew after they ventured into Saudi territorial waters without permits.
