CAIRO: The fishermen and farmer syndicates and National Development Bank employees received permission from the Interior Ministry to organize a protest next week in front of the Council of Ministers to oppose a policy of Minister of Agriculture Ayman Farid Abu Hadid, head of the Fishermen’s Syndicate Ahmed Nassar said on Tuesday.

Nassar told Youm7 early Tuesday that a great number of fishermen and farmers across the governorates will participate in the protest.

“Recent statements of the Minister of Agriculture irritated fishermen across all governorates,” he said. The minister applied for 50 million EGP in funding for farmers’ health insurance without including fishermen in the budget, he said.

Nassar said he participated in a meeting of the Agriculture Ministry along with Social Solidarity Minister Ahmed el-Borie, in which they pledged to provide insurance to fishermen.

“I will file a complaint against Abu Hadid if he does not apply for health insurance for fishermen,” Nassar said.
