CAIRO: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker began his first round on Tuesday to check power plants by checking North Giza plant with a total capacity of 2250 MW.

This plant is one of the electricity sector projects currently implemented to be finished before the summer of 2014, Shaker said Tuesday in press statements. This plant is one of the projects of the five-year plan for 2012-2017 to face the great development in the demand rates on electric power.

North Giza plant is working with the combined cycle system, which provides one third of the production of electricity generated from the plant without the use of additional fuel, saves fuel, and reduces emissions, Shaker added.

On Shaker’s first day as Minister of Electricity in Ibrahim Mahlab’s new Cabinet, he announced changing the name of the ministry to Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
