MENOUFIA, Egypt: Three Ministers headed to Quweisna city in Menoufia on Tuesday to inspect the conformity of three leather manufacturing factories to international environmental standards, according to an official statement.

Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdul Muttalib, Minister of Local Development Adel Labib and Minister of Environment Laila Iskander visited Quweisna to supervise the implementation of a decision to close factories violating the stipulations stated at the environmental compatibility plan developed by the Ministry of Environment.

The violating factories are to be closed is they are found to have failed to build stations to treat their industrial wastewater, or to have dumped their waste into the various drinking water canals in the city.

The three Ministers convened earlier in a closed-door meeting with the governor of Menoufia to discuss the appropriate security procedures for the closure of the violating factories.
