CAIRO: Egyptian citizens should realize the extent of the crisis in Egypt, Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker said on Tuesday and that they must coexist with it and help through the rationalization of consumption in all fields, especially electricity.
Shaker said in press statements that the electricity sector can operate the national network safely if there is the required fuel.
He said there is coordination with the Ministry of Petroleum to avoid the crisis during the summer. The Ministry conducted a study containing the historical data of the electricity loads during the peak times and its needs of fuel in different times.
General Directorate of Electricity Police held expanded security crackdowns seizing all violations, including stealing electric current and electrical cables.
The crackdowns during February resulted in seizing 93 different cases, including the theft of electrical cables, fraud, detriment of public money, and 445 cases of stealing the electric current.
The crackdowns succeeded in combating illegal connections and seized 109,962 lawsuits of electric current theft and 644 lawsuits of violation of contract terms. In the field of collecting, the crackdowns resulted in collecting 101,737 fines for lawsuits of stealing electric current, 561 fines for lawsuits of violation of contract terms, and 11,983 misdemeanor imprisonments were implemented.
