CAIRO: Rumors about sarcastic TV presenter Bassem Youssef are circulating once more.

Youssef is in hot water again following the airing of a controversial episode on Feb. 28, which mocked the Egyptian military, Defense Minister Abdel Fatah al-Sisi‘s visit to Moscow, and the military’s latest breakthrough invention, the device which detects Hepatitis C and HIV infections.

MBC Group, which hosts Youssef’s program on its channel MBC Masr, denied having put an end to the terms of the contract with Youssef, calling on the audience to only trust information released by the group’s own media office, said a press statement issued Monday on their official website.

Following the latest episode, some on social media severely criticized Youssef for mocking the military doctor’s device, accusing him of underestimating science. Naturally, the same critics on social media circulated news, accompanied with a picture, which stated MBC Group decided to suspend Youssef’s show and end their contract with him for various reasons.
