CAIRO: The Clinical Pharmacy Students’ Union of Cairo University announced on Tuesday that its members will go on strike starting Saturday to protest against the random arrests of students in universities, according to a statement.

The student union issued the statement to announce that they will not attend classes or lectures. The statement added that student Hamdy Ahmed Ali was arrested from his home without any charges, and that students will continue striking until their peers are released.

The Maydan student group at Cairo University, which is affiliated with the Dostour Party, also announced that they support the decision of the student union. They will also begin escalating actions until the release of their colleagues arrested in recent events, they said in a statement.

The group called on all students to participate in the strike until their colleagues return to college.
