CAIRO: “I am not entitled to comment on the Egyptian judiciary’s fair rulings regarding banning Hamas’ activities in Egypt,” Fatah leader Hazem Abou Shanab told Mehwar channel Tuesday.

Abou Shanab said Hamas’ role “was previously illegal” and that it is only one of 24 other organizations in Palestine.

Cairo Court for urgent matters outlawed the activities of Hamas on Tuesday and ordered the seizure all of its offices in Cairo. In December, Egypt designated the Muslim Brotherhood as a “terrorist” organization.

Hamas is an offshoot of Egypt’s Brotherhood and has controlled the Gaza Strip since it fell into deep dispute with Fatah, which controls the West Bank, shortly after Hamas won the 2006 legislative elections.
