DAKAHLIA, Egypt: A Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) local competition of school and university students is scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, where several teams from Egyptian schools and universities participate to qualify for the finals that will be held in Alpena, Miami, in the United States on June 26-28, 2014.
Technical colleges and universities students are eligible to participate in both local and international competitions with Explorer class vehicles, while middle and high school students are eligible to compete with only Ranger class vehicles.
The competition aims at helping students develop their abilities to solve technical problems and to work as a part of a team. It also increases their awareness of marine life.
The ROV is a tethered underwater robot that could be used for many purposes including but not limited to oil exploration, commercial shipping, ship husbandry, ocean engineering, video production and scientific research.
