CAIRO: Egypt’s ambassador to Qatar Mohamed Morsi has been in Cairo since the beginning of February based on his own decision, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Badr Abdel Atty in a Wednesday press release.

Abdel Atty said the decision is based on his own reasons, which includes the intervention of Qatar in Egypt’s internal affairs, the refusal to return Egyptian criminals wanted for trial, and the rumors being circulated by Qatar-owned media networks about Egypt.

Commenting on Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates decision to withdraw their ambassadors from Qatar, Abdel Atty said this decision reflects these countries’ rejection for the positions and policies of Qatar.

These decisions show that the dispute is not only between Egypt and Qatar, but between Qatar and the majority of Arab countries, Abdel Atty said, calling on Qatar to determine its position clearly from joint Arab interests.
