CAIRO: Retired Lieutenant General Samy Anan’s presidential campaign has been suspended, Khaled al-Adawy the general coordinator of the campaign told Youm7, Wednesday.

Adawy attributed this to the questions that have been raised over Anan’s candidacy.

Various media outlets have alleged that the Muslim Brotherhood supports Anan’s bid, which in light of current circumstances would greatly deplete his chances to win.

However, the Brotherhood’s official Twitter account, IkhwanWeb, denies these claims to The Cairo Post on Jan. 29.

Adawy told Youm7 that the campaign has not decided to support another candidate presently, and will wait for the final results, and for Anan to announce officially he will not participate in the presidential elections.

Further, the Military Veterans Front, who had previously expressed its support for Anan, called on former Chief of Staff to rescind his decision to run for presidency, for the sake of “Egypt’s supreme interest.”
